Life in space is extreme, isolated and unforgiving, and surviving it requires extraordinary physical and mental strength. This incredible documentary follows 12 extraordinary people as they take on a demanding training regime usually reserved for real-life astronaut candidates.
From piloting skills to life-and-death decisions, the intense training programme pushes the candidates’ bodies, minds and emotions to the limit. They take on a simulated space launch in a centrifuge, train to escape from a sinking helicopter and experience weightlessness onboard the infamous ‘vomit comet’, all while being assessed by a doctor, a psychologist and legendary astronaut Chris Hadfield – former commander of the International Space Station.
The camera becomes friend and confidant as the candidates battle through their rigorous training schedule, and intimate interviews reveal the thoughts, emotions and mindset of each team member.
