From the sparkle and razzmatazz of Dancing with the Stars to the tense brain challenge of Mastermind, BBC Studios brings some of the best British formats to life for Australian and New Zealand audiences, with a very local flavour.
Set up in September 2018, the ANZ production arm draws on BBC Studios’ extensive range of formats to reproduce local versions of globally-renowned programs. As well as producing series like Mastermind for SBS, BBC Studios co-produces shows with partners, like Dancing with the Stars for Ten, and licenses formats to other producers, including Filthy Rich and Homeless for SBS, The Great Australian Bake Off for Foxtel, The Great Kiwi Bake Off for TVNZ, and Dancing with the Stars for Three. It is also developing ideas for wholly original shows, which will showcase Australian and New Zealand TV to the rest of the world once they have broadcast here.
As well as producing quality programs for viewers, BBC Studios brings value to the ANZ production industry by employing local crews and talent. It recently launched the Unscripted International Producer Program, in partnership with Creative NSW and the AIDC, offering the opportunity for an Australian documentary producer to collaborate with BBC Studios in the UK.
The ANZ production arm is part of BBC Studios’ International Production and Formats division. Kylie Washington is the Director of Television for BBC Studios ANZ and Jon Penn is Managing Director of the ANZ company, which offers a full service to consumers and clients, from production to content exploitation.
